HEROES (Helpers Engaged in Reaching Oakland's Excelling Schools) is the volunteer placement program for the Oakland Unified School District. Our mission seeks to enhance the quality of educational experience for Oakland students by promoting volunteerism within the community.

On this website, you can find out how to volunteer, and get an overview of how to get started. Learn about the Adopt-A-School program, and discover how your organization can make a difference. Check out the HEROES Readers Project! HEROES also has special events that might be a perfect fit! OUSD Teachers can request a volunteer for their classroom here. Go to the About page if you're interested in our history or the wonderful people who work for HEROES. Those eager to start can go right ahead and fill out our application.
